Lydia A. Hartung, DMD

Dr. Lydia Hartung is a compassionate and well-rounded dental professional dedicated to delivering inclusive, patient-centered care. A North Carolina native, she grew up in Salisbury and Mooresville and completed her undergraduate degree in Polymer and Color Chemistry: Medical Sciences at North Carolina State University. She then earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine, where she received comprehensive training across multiple specialties, including pediatrics, endodontics, oral surgery, and special care dentistry.

Dr. Hartung’s path to dentistry was inspired by her dental family and a growing appreciation for the profound impact oral health has on overall well-being. What began as early exposure evolved into a passion for combining science, artistry, and patient care. Her unique background in materials science, coupled with her experience as a Project Engineer in the medical device field, gives her a strong foundation in dental materials and complex procedures.

While in dental school, Dr. Hartung served as the National Student Liaison for the Special Care Dentistry Association and was a leader on the Health Sciences Leadership Council. These experiences reflect her deep commitment to healthcare advocacy and improving access for individuals with special needs - an area she continues to champion in her clinical work today.

Dr. Hartung is especially passionate about special care dentistry and providing compassionate treatment for patients with unique healthcare requirements. She values interprofessional collaboration and a holistic approach to care, ensuring every patient feels seen, heard, and supported throughout their dental journey.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Hartung finds joy in spending time with her family and friends. She is an avid runner, a creative home cook, and enjoys exploring fashion and travel. Her beloved dog, Chester, and cat, Ollie, are cherished companions. She is also actively involved in her church community.
