Melissa Papio, DMD, MSDr. Melissa Papio was born in Silver Spring, Maryland and raised in Avon, Connecticut. She went to undergrad at Boston College followed by UCONN Dental School. She completed an AEGD at VCU in Richmond, VA and finished her training at The Ohio State University in the orthodontic residency.

In middle school, Dr. Papio and her best friend I would go to our orthodontic appointments together. She had an impacted canine and she was amazed by how the orthodontist was able to pull her tooth into her arch. From that moment on, she knew she wanted to become an orthodontist. She started shadowing and then working as a dental assistant at an orthodontic office in high school. During this time, she fell in love with the biomechanics and art behind orthodontics and how a doctor is able to positively impact a person’s life forever (as long as they wear their retainers lol).

Dr. Papio started in the dental field as an orthodontic assistant at 16 years old. She worked at a local orthodontic office throughout high school, college summers, and even during dental school breaks. She is thankful for those early years of mentorship under the guidance of Dr. Andy Kuhlberg. With this experience and wanting to perfecting my skill set, she knew she wanted to specialize in orthodontics. After orthodontic residency, she worked at an office in Greenville, SC for over 3 years. She will always be grateful for this opportunity, her staff, and her patients.

Dr. Papio is passionate about personal and professional growth. She strives to improve herself and her work everyday. She is passionate about doing the right thing (also a Riccobene motto). While she is a hard worker, she loves to enjoy life and try to live it to the fullest. She is passionate about making memories with her family and friends. Dr. Papio is married to her husband, Peter and they have two Australian labradoodles named Ziggy and Lila. They enjoy traveling to and exploring new places, creating memories along the way. In their spare time, they like hiking, boating, trying new restaurants, and spending time with family and friends.
