Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Dr. Ganiat Lawal emigrated to the United States in the late 80s. Growing up, it was instilled in her to achieve a good education and pursue a professional career where she could help others. After shadowing a doctor in her family, she found her passion and decided to pursue a career in dentistry.
Dr. Lawal obtained her Bachelor of Dental Science degree from the School of Dental Sciences at the University of Lagos in Nigeria. While there, she completed a one-year rotating internship through all of the dental specialties at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. After emigrating to the United States, Dr. Lawal attended Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in the Advanced Standing program, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. She then went on to complete a General Practice Residency at the VA Medical Center and the Bellevue Hospital in New York. Dr. Lawal is proficient in a multitude of dental procedures, including fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, Invisalign, root canals, and implant restoration.
Throughout her career, Dr. Lawal has worked in multiple settings of dentistry including private practice, community, and public health. She has a passion for working with all age groups because it typically allows her to see all members of the family. Dr. Lawal continues to take continuing education courses in the latest technological advances in the field of general dentistry so that she can provide the highest standard of care for her patients. She is also currently an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.
Outside of the office, Dr. Lawal can be found reading or spending time with her husband and 2 sons. As a family, they enjoy traveling and trying new cuisines.
