Dr. Pennisi was born and raised in Troy, NY. He moved to Chapel Hill, NC, in 1995 to finish his undergraduate studies in molecular biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While in school and for four years after graduation, he worked as a research technician in the Department of Physiology in the UNC School of Medicine. He then continued his research career in the cancer field in the pharmaceutical industry working for GlaxoSmithKline.
After several years in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Pennisi decided to pursue a career in dentistry because it would allow him to work with his hands, utilize his medical research background, and have fun meeting new people. In 2007, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with high honors and was elected to the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor fraternity.
Dr. Pennisi continues to integrate his research background in dentistry by following the methods, materials, and technological advancements used in dentistry that have been proven through scientific research. He combines his evidence-based methodology with a fun, laid-back, patient-centered approach to treatment so people feel more comfortable in the office. And he keeps up with these advancements by continually taking four to five times the required courses in continuing education.
Dr. Pennisi is a member of the American Dental Association, Wake County Dental Society, and North Carolina Dental Society. When he is not in the office, he enjoys UNC sports, running, woodworking, and spending time with his wife and three daughters.
