A beautiful, full smile contributes to a healthy self-esteem and is also essential for completing everyday tasks, such as eating and talking. If you are missing one or more teeth, dental bridges are an esthetic solution to filling in the empty space left behind. At Riccobene Associates Family Dentistry, we can help you get a smile you’ll love.

A dental bridge is a prosthesis that connects to existing teeth on either side of the gap. The bridge has false (but natural-looking) teeth in the middle that fit perfectly into the space where your natural teeth once were.

Types of Bridges

There are two common types of bridges: fixed and removable. During your smile consultation, Dr. Riccobene will recommend which option is right for you based on your specific needs.

Fixed Bridges

Fixed bridges are great for patients missing one or all of their teeth that still have a healthy jawbone. This bridge consists of two or more crowns cemented to the teeth on either side of the gap, with a false tooth or teeth in between. A fixed bridge is permanent and can’t be taken on and off.

Removable Bridges

Removable bridges work well for patients who have suffered severe bone loss in their jaw. The false teeth are attached to a gum-colored base that is connected to a metal framework. The bridge is attached with metal clasps to your existing natural teeth or to dental implants. The plastic base helps preserve your facial shape.

Benefits of a Dental Bridge

Dental bridges have many benefits, they:

  • Allow you to eat, speak, and smile naturally
  • Keep your bite and jaw aligned
  • Maintain your facial shape
  • Prevent remaining teeth from moving out of their place

Cost of Dental Bridges

The cost of dental bridges varies depending on the type of bridge, number of false teeth needed, and the materials used. After your consultation, we’ll decide on a bridge that’s right for your situation, and go over your expected out-of-pocket costs. With proper care, dental bridges can last for 20 or more years. We’ll work with you to fit this long-term tooth replacement option into your budget!
